3rd of January: "Can you summon your earliest memory?"
Here we go with day 3 and why that would be.

Look: this is a fun one. Today’s prompt is to summon your earliest memory. Science and the book with the instructions for babies said we remember things from 3 years onwards. So there are two distinct happenings I remember from far back.
Number 1: Kindergarten sandpit. So when I was like 3 or 4ish, I don’t know exactly. We, meaning definitely more kids than just me. Took the beanie of another kid and buried it in the sandpit. We all thought we remembered pretty exactly where in that 3 meters times 3 meters sandpit that might have been. But after we returned home and said kid lamented the loss of his beanie a search party of parents and Kindergarten teachers was formed and spent the evening digging for the beanie. It turned dark quickly and in Eastern Germany and hence the USSR beanies or hats might have been valuable. That hat never turned back up. I always wondered why. Maybe it’s like washing machine to sock as a sandpit to beanie…
Number 2: a weird dream. I must have been 4 or around that and I fell asleep on the sofa. I don’t remember ever having watched a version of “The Wizard of Oz” or “Adams Family” but that dream somehow resembles characters from those two things. Our house was on fire and on the ground floor I find a door with a kid-sized cat door so I crawled through. In there I meet a family of a headless robot character, a long-haired pale woman and maybe a lion man or some type of furry animal hybrid. They take me in. Make me tea. Have me sit on their couch that was similar to the one I fell asleep on and make me all comfy. I remember them being nice, a little weird, but very hospitable and nice.
Why do I remember that I have no clue? Again science says we don’t remember what happens before we turn 3. I wish we would have found that beanie and Andy (that is the dude’s name) hopefully has multiple hats these days and probably doesn’t remember that incident at all. As for that dream, it didn’t reoccur and even though there was a fire it wasn’t scary. My dreams rarely if ever are scary. And I am happy to remember a lot of dreams. I hope that stays that way. 3 or 4 is a good age and my daughter will be at that age very soon. Good times!
What do you remember?
