Don't let interesting voices die

Kevin Conroy, Joe Rogan, Joey Diaz...

What do those 3 names have in common? They all have great voices. Literally and figuratively.

Kevin Conroy

One of the best Batman voices, the voice that defined Batman animated and in the popular Arkham games died. This November at age 66. There is a popular German song where the hook is something like: “with 66 years your life really starts”. Unbelievably iconic. A great human being all around and he gave Batman more minutes than every other actor or voice artist. Sad. Fuck cancer! My aunt battles with it, my wife lost a dear friend way too early and many people are taken suddenly and unexpectedly. It’s horrid. Rest in peace Kevin Conroy. You will be missed but never forgotten. I can’t even imagine how many people Kevin helped to overcome fears, to have a superhero to look up to and just forget the real world for some time.

Joey Diaz

Oh boy! Everybody’s favourite Uncle. A distinct voice and a man that can make pretty much any story funny. Here is his infamous fart story. He also has a distinct voice that you may have heard in movies, a podcast or in Mafia III. A man with a tough life story. A former criminal and one of the funniest people in the world. I could listen to him read the most boring books and if you want to have a good time watch or listen to any podcast he is on.

Joe Rogan

If you have paid attention and listened to the fart story from Joey Diaz you hear someone laughing in the background. That is Joe Rogan. The man with the most famous podcast in the world. A bro. Yes, this man has said many a controversial thing and yes, I don’t follow his podcast as much anymore (because of my dislike for Spotify and some of the guests that I didn’t find too interesting). I still find that Joe has his heart in the right place. He doesn’t deserve to get cancelled (and he probably will never) but that is not how you stop people from thinking and speaking stupid shit. Talk to them, especially if they are as open as Joe Rogan. Apart from the reach and voice, he has with the podcast, I also find he has a distinct and beautiful voice that I like to listen to. No matter his political opinions this guy has found and built a network of fantastic comedians and also, for a reason, has the most popular podcast on earth. He has a big and good heart and it is worth having his voice out there, even if you and I don’t agree with all of it. With 2000+ podcasts under your belt, it is inevitable that you don’t talk some gibberish, but that doesn’t make a person.

Voices

There are people like Jordan Peterson, who has completely lost the plot and also has a distinct voice (if you are into Kermit’s way of speaking), there are people that have a distinct voice like Ben Shapiro and talk fast to mask the nonsense that they have been spewing since forever. And there are people like Mike Row (host of Dirty Jobs and recent guest on Theo Von’s podcast) that have a deep, colourful and powerful voice. In Germany, we have one man that owns the voice game David Nathan, he is the German voice of Christian Bale and Johnny Depp, as well as possibly the most booked audiobook narrator and rightfully so. This man has read me a monumental book by Haruki Murakami and also does most of the work in the German version of the Amazon Audio production of The Sandman. Anyhow, I don’t like people getting cancelled and I love beautiful voices, which is also probably a thing if you are into extreme Metal. Let them speak and call them out when they say bullshit, but let your voice be heard too. Especially if you are hurt or if you support something for the greater good. Let your voices be heard.

Bonus:

Today is a beautiful day. Christmas came early. Something I have been waiting for roughly a year or so finally came out. Jakey’s ROMCOM. It’s the album of a Youtuber, Singer and Producer. It’s fantastic! Great sample work and interesting all around. Such a beautiful person that usually sits on a gymnastic ball and talks about video games with fast cuts and effects, is also capable of moving music and yeah, it’s out there now. Buy it, listen to it. Support that beautiful person. I do!
