This is gonna be about books and reading!
And this will be what this is about a lot. Be warned!
So this is still new to me. What is not is me reading books.
As a child, I was enamoured with stories. As a teen, I was addicted to reading. Now I try to make more time to have words and worlds fill my head.
Seriously, I remember a time where when I sat on a toilette and had nothing to read, I had to pick up shampoo bottles and read what is written on there.
During the last weeks, I have migrated my old blog posts over here to substack. Don’t worry you don’t have to read that back catalogue, as I will use this fodder to upgrade and serve in a new form (and in English) here.
2022 is probably my best reading year since my teens. And there are two fantastic authors that I love since my teens and just finished books recently.
Chuck Palahniuk:
What can I say? I watched Fight Club back in my hood and searched for the author of that influential movie. Turns out, this would become one if not my favourite author ever.
Turns out the movie was almost a word-for-word copy of the book. Good job Mr Fincher. Choke became one of my favourite books. I started reading in English. I bought almost all his books. Influenced by Chuck I started to write, attend a writing course and just recently finished ‘The Invention of Sound’. (Link to my goodreads with this review and many more)
Haruki Murakami:
I believe I started with the popular bestseller ‘Norwegian Wood’ and it was good, but not great. Together with a friend, we dove into more works of this fantastic author. And first of all, I am glad, that I can read German because the German translations of Haruki Murakami are really, really good. Better than the English versions in my humble opinion. That might be because Japanese lends itself better to German than to English, but who am I to judge that?
So I finished ‘1Q84’ the magnum opus of Murakami. A massive three-book spanning story with all the hallmarks you can expect. It was good, ney, fantastic but not his best work. (Link to my goodreads with this review and many more)
So yeah, I have finished two epic books from authors that I have been in love with for ages and this and many more things prompted me to write again and share what I do. Here.
Let me show you out the door with this all-encompassing quote:
"The meaning of life is to find joy in everything you choose to do, every job, relationship, home. It's your responsibility to love it or change it." - Chuck Palahniuk
So do that!
And goodreads ffs please update your site. The 90s called and want that design back. There are readers out there that read on devices other than books or listen to them, so please go with the times.
